Mostly from one trip to/from a local restaurant for takeout. Huge bin of spaghetti/meatballs, bread, salad, all for like $35. The best part: they’re trying to empty their kegs and will fill a growler for $10. I got Maine Beer Co. “Lunch” which is usually about $9/10 per 16oz, so this was a smokin deal.
But this is going to be a struggle for just about any restaurant. I said “I hope you guys are okay” and they said, they thought they could make it through a couple months of take-out only, but it’ll be tough. We’ll see if the current volume keeps up, too, which seems doubtful.
Anyway, the shortest way there was 50% dirt roads, so I went fully rally mode in the Volvo, because why not.

Every Volvo is secretly hoping to grow up and become a rally car!
This is what I did with mine this weekend. 2 new motor mounts mean 50% less clunking, and I am in love with the wheels.

You can’t achieve that level of blend by driving slowly. I’ve done lots of testing on this matter, mostly using my old BMW wagons in prior years

any % less clunking is a win. I think I need front sway bar links, on that note.
I do like those wheels! I’m getting my summer wheels tomorrow (new tires being mounted) but will hold off as we’re supposed to get a bunch of snow tonight. Not that I’m driving anywhere, but my wife will take it, she’s still going into work.

Lunch, Dinner, Another One, A Tiny Beautiful Something. Post Ride Snack. Lots of good names and they’re also all delicious.

I wasn’t going to blow up your spot but I thought about saying “you don’t get it to look like that going slow!” I see no chunks.

I'm partial to Mean Old Tom myself.

I always like to eat in at restaurants, but I’m fine taking stuff to-go if restaurants offer it. I just don’t do drive-thru’s. When my dad and I were in my college town a couple days ago, we ate from this little walk-up place that had good fried fish and chili cheese fries. It’s nice to support local places.
Now I want to call (yes, call) this local place to see if they’re open.

Thanks! Which wheels are you using for summer wheels?
I have a set of Propus C’s that I scored in a junkyard that are in pretty good shape. I’m still going in to work at the moment, but if they do shift us to work from home I’m going to start restoring them. Those will be for my next Volvo...
This car needs rear toe links, but they are a huge PITA to replace, and you need a special tool thats about $100-150. I’ve come to the conclusion that what I really want is an older 240 w agon, so I think I’m just going to finish up a few other little projects on this car and then put it up for sale and put the proceeds towards the wagon.

I keep looking at XC70s. How's fuel economy?

Fuel econ, meh. I drive mostly around state roads, in a hilly rural area. I’d probably get more like mid-20's on the highway without the roof rack. But I’m right about 20-21 as-is. It is comfy and roomy though, in particular the cargo space. Very deep and wide, which for us, is what we need - you can’t stack dogs on top of each other, so added height doesn’t really help.
I know fuel econ would probably be even worse, but I’d get the T6 if I could, the 3.2 isn’t that exciting - or at least, the pairing with the transmission and/or that transmission’s programming does not get along with me very well.

Interesting difference in airflow here. I guess, I don’t know. I can bet I didn’t go slower in the E46 though.

Yeah I looked at that and got the TSX wagon, I didn’t need the AWD and I did need better MPGs for commuting. I can get 31 on the highway and 22 in SF downtown. My commute is split between those usually. I do like Volvos a lot but it was going to be a lot worse over time.

It helps that one of my coworkers is much older than me and named Tom

Hmm yea, maybe a different enough angle on the rear wheel wells too?
